Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra

Young Composers Competition

Every other year, the EPO invites submissions of original orchestral compositions from Canadians 32 years of age and under for judging by an expert panel.

$3,500 in cash prizes will be awarded in three categories: a $2,000 Grand Prize, a $1,000 Runner-up, and a $500 Promising High School Composer prize. While COVID-19 restrictions make it impossible to announce the date, the Grand Prize winner's composition will be performed at an EPO concert in an upcoming season.

Winners

Compositions were judged by EPO's own Matthew Jones and Mark Whale plus Canadian composer Gary Kulesha.

Umberto Quattrociocchi won our Grand Prize of $2,000 and a performance by the EPO of his winning composition, Grazie Altrettanto. Umberto is a University of Toronto student whose gratitude to his Nonna inspired this work.

The Runner-Up prize of $1,000 was awarded to Andrew James Clark of Toronto for his work Symphonic Dance.
